2026 Beijing Broaden International Education Group International Education Exchange Week – Stop 6: Beijing Experimental School

初夏时节，2026年北京博文国际教育国际交流周来到了北京实验学校。本次活动由北京博文国际教育集团（BBIE）主办，特邀美国资深法官威廉·多德森博士（Dr. William Dodson）远道而来，与北实学子共话成长、分享人生智慧。

In early summer, the 2026 BBIE International Education Exchange Week arrived at Beijing Experimental School. This event was hosted by Beijing Broaden International Education Group (BBIE), with the special invitation of Dr. William Dodson, a senior American judge, who traveled from afar to share wisdom on personal growth with the students of Beijing Experimental School.

北京实验学校这所承载着百年历史底蕴的学府——其前身香山慈幼院由民国总理熊希龄先生于1920年创办，开创了中国近代慈善教育的先河——如今以"魅力教育"为旗帜，正致力于培养具有"中国灵魂、国际视野"的现代人才。

Beijing Experimental School is an institution steeped in a century of history. Its predecessor, the Xiangshan Ciyouyuan (Fragrant Hills Benevolent Orphanage), was founded in 1920 by Mr. Xiong Xiling, a former Premier of the Republic of China, pioneering modern charitable education in China. Today, under the banner of "Charismatic Education," the school is dedicated to cultivating modern talents with a "Chinese soul and international vision."

威廉·多德森博士的人生履历堪称传奇。他曾担任美国德州第九届行政司法地区高级法官。凭借卓越的专业素养，他于1987年至1995年间连续两届当选该职。1996年，多德森博士出任华盛顿特区公共政策负责人及法律顾问，因贡献卓著，受到时任美国总统克林顿的接见。自2014年首次踏上中国土地，他便与这片土地结下了不解之缘，多次来华讲座交流，并曾执教于中国政法大学。此次走进北京实验学校，正是他"以人生故事激励中国学子"这一信念的延续。

Dr. William Dodson's life story is nothing short of legendary. He served as a Senior Judge of the Ninth Administrative Judicial Region of Texas. With outstanding professional competence, he was elected to this position for two consecutive terms from 1987 to 1995. In 1996, Dr. Dodson was appointed Director of Public Policy and Legal Counsel in Washington, D.C., and for his remarkable contributions, he was received by then-President Bill Clinton. Since first setting foot on Chinese soil in 2014, he has forged an indissoluble bond with this land, returning many times to lecture and exchange ideas, and having taught at China University of Political Science and Law. His visit to Beijing Experimental School is a continuation of his belief in "inspiring Chinese students through life stories."

多德森博士以自身跌宕起伏的成长经历为线索，为同学们展开了一幅关于"发现自我"与"善待他人"的动人画卷。

Using his own tumultuous journey of growth as a thread, Dr. Dodson unfolded a moving picture for the students about "discovering oneself" and "treating others well."

博士回忆道，中学时期的他曾痴迷于篮球，一度梦想成为职业球员。但在父母的引导下，他逐渐发现了更为广阔的志趣天地。约八岁那年，他在电视上目睹了美国20世纪60年代的种族问题，内心深受震撼，遂提笔致信美国总统，呼吁"平等对待所有人，不应因肤色而区别对待"。令他惊喜万分的是，白宫竟真的寄来了回信。这段经历如星火燎原，点燃了他对历史与政治科学的浓厚兴趣，也为他日后投身法律事业埋下了最初的种子。他勉励同学们："找到一件你能做、你喜欢做、而且你擅长做的事。不必刻意迎合他人的期待，勇敢做自己天生该成为的人。"

Dr. Dodson recalled that during middle school, he was obsessed with basketball and once dreamed of becoming a professional player. However, under the guidance of his parents, he gradually discovered a broader world of interests. At about the age of eight, he witnessed the racial issues of 1960s America on television and was deeply shaken. He picked up a pen and wrote to the President of the United States, calling for "equal treatment for all, without discrimination based on skin color." To his great surprise, the White House actually sent a reply. This experience spread like wildfire, igniting his strong interest in history and political science, and planting the earliest seed for his later career in law. He encouraged the students: "Find something you can do, that you love to do, and that you are good at doing. There is no need to deliberately cater to others' expectations; have the courage to be the person you are naturally meant to be."

多德森博士讲述了一段难忘的往事来开始他第二部分的分享。2015年他第二次访华时，一位年轻学生曾问他："法官阁下，法律的本质是什么？"他的回答是："法律的本质，就是像希望别人对待自己那样去对待别人。"他坦言，自己喜欢被友善相待，因此也始终以友善之心待人。这是他教给子女和孙辈的人生准则，也是他走遍中国反复传递的信念。"世界上最重要的事情是人，"他说，"学会与人相处，是我们一生的功课。"

Dr. Dodson began the second part of his sharing with an unforgettable story. During his second visit to China in 2015, a young student once asked him: "Your Honor, what is the essence of law?" His answer was: "The essence of law is to treat others as you would wish to be treated." He frankly admitted that he likes to be treated kindly, and therefore always treats others with kindness. This is the life principle he teaches his children and grandchildren, and it is also the belief he has repeatedly conveyed throughout his travels in China. "The most important thing in the world is people," he said. "Learning to get along with others is a lifelong lesson for all of us."

本次演讲由BBIE陶菲菲主任担任现场翻译。陶主任以生动风趣、通俗易懂的语言风格，将多德森博士的故事与人生哲理娓娓道来，引得同学们阵阵掌声。同学们听得津津有味，时而颔首赞同，时而陷入沉思，完全被演讲内容所吸引。

This lecture was interpreted on-site by Ms. Tao Feifei, Director of BBIE. With a vivid, witty, and accessible linguistic style, Director Tao recounted Dr. Dodson's stories and life philosophies, drawing rounds of applause from the students. The students listened with great relish, nodding in agreement at times and falling into deep thought at others, completely captivated by the lecture's content.

在讲座结束后的问答环节，同学们就中美法律差异、生活中的困惑以及律师执业经历等问题与博士进行了深入交流。他们被博士的博学和幽默深深感染，并立志成为像他一样为世界带来温暖和笑声的人。演讲结束后，多德森博士与同学们合影留念，同学们纷纷竖起大拇指，脸上洋溢着收获的喜悦。

In the Q&A session following the lecture, the students engaged in in-depth exchanges with Dr. Dodson on topics such as differences between Chinese and American law, personal life dilemmas, and his experience practicing as a lawyer. They were deeply inspired by Dr. Dodson's erudition and humor, and resolved to become people who bring warmth and laughter to the world, just like him. After the lecture, Dr. Dodson took group photos with the students, who gave thumbs-up one after another, their faces beaming with joy.

本次国际交流活动为北京实验学校的同学们打开了一扇眺望世界的明窗，也为中美文化交流架设了一座坚实的友谊之桥。相信北实学子带着多德森博士的谆谆教导，一定会在自己未来的人生征程中更加坚定执着地走只属于自己的道路，同时用自己的能力服务社会和报效祖国。后续BBIE 将携手全国各地中小学，引进国际先进教育理念与优质资源，赋能国内教育国际化，助力学子拓宽全球视野。

This international exchange activity opened a bright window for the students of Beijing Experimental School to gaze upon the world, and also built a solid bridge of friendship for China-U.S. cultural exchange. We believe that the students of Beijing Experimental School, carrying Dr. Dodson's earnest teachings, will walk their own unique paths with even greater determination and perseverance in their future life journeys, while using their abilities to serve society and contribute to their motherland. Going forward,BBIE will join hands with primary and secondary schools across the country to introduce advanced international educational concepts and quality resources, empowering the internationalization of domestic education and helping students broaden their global horizons.
